How to Remove Dip Powder Nails?
Getting a fresh manicure is always an uplifting experience. Not only do you get great looking nails, your nails will make you feel like a million dollars!
After a few weeks, the dip powder nails start to chip, and you no longer look or feel as great about them. This is when you need to remove the nails. But how do you remove dip powder nails? Do you need acetone?
Fear not, here are some valuable tips for removing dip powder nails.
Removing Dip Powder Nails at Home – The Methods
Method One
When you feel your dip powder manicure has served its time, you should remove it. One way to do so is by using acetone. At home, you can easily find the tools you will need for the job. These include:
- Acetone
- Cotton balls
- A nail file or emery board
- Aluminum foil
- Cuticle oil
To remove the powder dip nails, follow the procedure below:
- File down your nails to remove the topcoat. Buff the layer in a back and forth motion, moving side to side. Continue to do so on each nail until each nail is covered in fine dust.
- Wipe off the dust with a cloth, and then soak your nails in acetone. Alternatively, soak a cotton ball in acetone and place it over your nail. Make sure the cotton ball covers the whole nail.
- Wrap the nails using aluminum foil and wait for 10-15 minutes. You could dip your nails in warm water to accelerate the process.
- Remove the foils and cotton balls. If there is any remaining polish, you can clean it with a cotton ball.
- And since acetone tends to dry your skin, use the cuticle oil to hydrate your nails.
Method Two
The key to a successful dip powder nail removal is buffing. However, the process accelerates even more with heat. A rise in temperature increases the rate at which acetone breaks down your nail polish, making it come off faster.
The second method you can use to remove dip powder nails involves a device called a steam nail polish remover. What you need:
- An emery board
- Acetone
- Cuticle oil
- Power source
How Does the Steam Nail Polish Remover Work?
- Place about two tablespoons of acetone in the plastic bowl that comes with the steamer.
- Connect the machine to a power source and wait for it to warm up
- As you wait for the acetone to warm, buff your nails in a top-down, side to side motion
- Once the indicator light shows that the acetone is ready, insert your finger through the spaces on the lid
- Leave your hand in for ten minutes
- Remove your hand and scrape off the dip powder nails
- Finish cleaning your hands and apply cuticle oil to hydrate your nails.
With this method, you can always put the acetone back in the bottle. Since there is minimal scraping when removing dip powder nails, your nail plate suffers no damage, and your nails remain healthy and robust compared to gel polish.
