Dip Nails 101 – The Guide for Beginners of Dip Nails
Whether you want to switch up your nail maintenance routine, or try out something new, we would recommend that you give dip nails a try. If you opt for dip nails, they offer a safe and beautiful manicure, whether you ask for them at the local nail bar, or if you do them at home. Below is a useful guide for dip nail beginners that we have put together.
How Do You Apply Dip Powder?
We are often asked questions about how dip powder nails are applied, and how long they last, and whether they can be done at home. They can be done at home, but you will need a few tools to complete the process, which is not that difficult once you have tried it a few times.
Tools you will need:
- A cuticle pusher
- A nail buffer
- A nail file
- Alcohol
- A lint-free piece of cloth
- A soft dust brush
- Cuticle oil
- Liquid polishes-including the bonder, base coat, activator, and topcoat
- The acrylic powder-for the best results, go for a colored and clear combination.
Dip Powder Nails Application Process
There are 10 steps to follow to end up with great looking dip powder nails. The steps to go through are as follows:
- Using the nail buffer, even out your nail bed
- Shape and file your nails using the nail file
- Push the cuticle into the nail plate, and cut off any hanging cuticle
- Using an alcohol mix, clean your nails, ready for the application
- Next, you apply a bonder on each nail and wait for it to dry.
- Add a thin layer of the base coat, and dip your nail into the coloured powder. Do so at an angle to avoid smudging the base coat.
- Remove your nail and brush off the extra powder with the soft dust brush. Make sure no powder gets into your cuticles.
- Repeat the process until you have a satisfactory look, and top off with a layer of the clear powder
- Apply an activator to harden your nails, and finish off with a top coat for a shiny manicure.
- The final step involves wiping your hands with the lint-free cloth to remove any powder before adding some cuticle oil to your cuticles for hydration.
Precautions for Dip Powder Nails
Whenever you visit the nail salon for a manicure, observe their hygiene standards. The last thing you want is a bacterial infection. Make sure you are in a clean environment and use properly sterilized tools.
We would recommend that you try the dip nail process above. If you go to the nail bar on average 15 times a year, it is possible to spend a little over £800 per year on your nails. However, with a simple dip nail kit at home, you can cut this down drastically, which means you can use the savings on other beauty products. Give it a go!
